My Jetta takes at least 20 minutes for the A/C to get cold. The most practical solution I can think of is to replace the compressor solenoid and possibly the compressor with it. Does anyone have any experience doing this replacement? or am I even in the right ball park?

My A/C works on setting 1 but the compressor turns off on settings 2, 3, 4. The fan (air blows at all speeds) works on all settings... its the A/C compressor that turns off in the last three settings. Switch was replaced once. Not sure if it is the blower motor resistor or something else...
