I recently found out the boot that covers the joint that turns when you turn the wheels has a slight rip in it. I was wondering how hard it would be to replace this becuase i dont want to ruin anything. What could be hurt by this rip and how can i fix it? thanks

Do you mean the CV boot. If so as long as its not clicking real bad when you turn replace it and repak it with grease and you should be fine.

Search for a DIY thread, there may be one. Big thing is to make sure you have all the right tools. I've never done a VW one yet (knock on wood) but I've done some others. And the snap rings can be a bear to deal with. You have to take the end of the outer axel and slide the end off the inner. Be careful not to let the bearing caps get dirty or dropped because then your screwed. Take your time and you should be good.
