Hey guys ever since i got my mk3 i've been doing alot of the maintenance my self.but i ran into a problem i haven't been able to fix.one day i went to wash my engine at my local carwash and the car turn off on me.So i took it home and let sparkplugs dry out and it was all cool. but when i started it back up the RPMs would go up to 3k then back to like 800 then 2k then back to 800 and finally idle at 1k.its been doing this ever since then.A friend told me it might be the throttle body and i changerd it but it still happens. anybody know what it might be.

You may have knocked a vacuum hose off of something, probably the intake boot or throttle body. That could cause the idle to fluctuate as you have mentioned.

FYI: be careful pressure washing your engine compartment. It is easy to get water into your distributor cap or other electrical components. And now that the engine is clean, replace your valve cover gasket so it doesn't get oily again.

Let us know how you make out...

hey what happened is that when i got the car it had a home made intake it has a few lines just pulling in air.there's a tube with a filter coming from the mass air flow sensor . so i'll try to get an original air dilter box and see what happens.

I have a '95 Jetta III Celebration Edition...which I belive isnt too different from yours (xept yours may be OBD 2) ANYway...I have used these people a few times and I have never returned or complained about an parts reliability/integrity or PRICE, which if I may add is a MUCH BETTER alternative to parts store or God forbid the feared DEALER PRICE...LOL any way....they are located in sacramento, CA you may call them 1-877-643-7626 OR if you live around here Call 916-631-1700 OR visit their webbie @ www.needvwparts.com They are called Specialized German Recycling they sell only USED VW and AUDI Parts... Sorry I am beginning to sound like Im trying to sell them...LOL I am just a very good customer of theirs...

Hope that helps,
