So I was driving down the road the other day go to shift to 3rd and nothing but a grinding noise. It grinds 1st and 3rd but only when I try to force it into gear.. 5th doesn't catch at all, like I'm in neutral .. Any ideas... Clutch maybe? It didn't slip or anything before so I'm lost... Thanks in advance

I would check shift linkage. You might have something loose under there that just needs tightening.

That was the first thing I checked, if your referring to the little plastic piece that sits underneath the airbox of on top of the transmission

seems odd you lost all the gears at the top of the shifter.

hahaha this is crazy i had a 07 rabbit come into my work saturday with this exact same problem. start your car and leave your ebrake up and just try to put it into all gears without moving. if it works fine try to drive it and see if it acts up. if it does your inner, and outter syncros are bad and need to be replaced. this was infact the problem with the rabbit and more than likely your car. try it and let me know. ill try to help as much as possible!!
