Hi I'm new to the site, and to the volkswagon world. I recently bought an 03 1.8t and the engine runs fine and when I go to put it in gear it's like the clutch is slipping. I priced the clutch assembly and they wanted 760 dollars. Alittle bit pricey lol. So my dad had an 02 2.0l and I was goin to swap the whole transmission, and I was wondering if it will fit, if not is the clutch plates the same from the 2.0l? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I know most transmissions are interchangeable between the mk4 Jettas.

These are alot cheaper than whoever your going through.

Here's a clutch kit for a 5 speed.

its your clutch, you have to drop the trans to do a clutch so why would you replace the hole trans just for a clutch?
I figured I would change the whole trans whileits out because mine has 310k and the one I have for parts only has 120k, but if you think it's better just to do the clutch, that's what I will do. What do you think?

That's upto you, if you want a longer gear ratio with the 2.0 transmission. Might be easier and cheaper to just replace the clutch in the trans thats already in there.

That would have been some helpful info to know, so if your not looking for performance on the car I would swap it, are they both 5 speed or 6 speed?

They are both 5 speeds. I got one trans one last night and I almost got the one on my car out, needs to find a tool to take the bolts that's holds the clutch to the fly wheel out
