Okay. Everyone be nice to me. I am a 19 year old girl who needs a lot of advice with her car. I have a 2003 volkswagen jetta and it has about 112,000 miles on it. I haven't had it for 2 years yet and I am having a lot of problems. First I need a new exhaust pipe and the mechanic wants to charge me 1,100 for it. He said the part is $800. Does that price sound reasonable? Also, whenever I accelerate after driving for awhile my oil light comes on and beeps. However, my oil has been changed and it's full. Just the other day I was at a stop light and my car felt as if it was going to turn off, my grandpa said it's time for a tune up? Personally, I am nervous every time I get in the car now. I just want it to be realiable again. Has anyone had any similar problems and have advice for me. Anything will be helpful. Thanks!

The oil light flashing and beeping means you don't have enough oil pressure. STOP driving it and have someone drop the pan and clean the pick up tube if its clogged and if you can afford it, replace the oil pump while the pan is off.

The exhaust, my guess is the guy is ripping you off or is trying to replace the Catalytic Converter, which cost quite a bit (I believe around $400). If its just a piece of pipe, a muffler shop can do that for around 100 bucks. Go get a second opinion from another shop.

Thanks so much! My grandpa is a mechanic, he just doesn't know a lot about German cars. I will pass this information on to him. Also, you mentioned that I should replace the oil pump if I can afford it. How much does it cost roughly?
