Hey everyone I am having some issues with my cluster on my 95 celebration edition jetta. While I am driving the speedometer likes to go up and down a lot and then sometimes just completely drop. My rpm gauge will always work and my gas guage fluctuates with hills and stopping and going. I was curious if all of this could be the cluster or if it could be the senors for the gas and something else for the speedo.

Sounds like the gas thing is just the censor from the gas moving to different heights while on hills or stop and go
This is true but to go from completely empty to completely full on a hill something has to be wrong. Could this possibly be the fuel sending unit? I was reading about it earlier and I think I might check that out first before tampering with the cluster.

Sending unit....which sucks because they are not cheap. There is a couple different units for the OBDI and all over $100 new. The OBDII unit is $150 from GAP and a complete fuel pump assembly is $190. My Jetta is a 95 and it does this....but only if the tank is around half full or less. The closer it gets to empty the gauge will go to full simply by driving forward. It is annoying but I never bothered to fix it. In most cases whatever the gauge is at when you start the car on level ground is how much gas you have. It is not the cluster. I have had multiple clusters in my car and they all acted the same way. Your car is a OBDI 95 like mine. MK3 clusters do go bad however. The soldering used when they were produced wears over time and stops making the electrical connections....you have to figure some are almost 20 years old now.
