hey im new to VW. well actually new to cars basicly. im only 16 but i bought a 97 jetta gt. not much was wrong with it for the price i paid ($2500). but its making a weird noise.. it kinda sounds like a tire rub because when i turn right it gets louder and when i turn left it goes away.. but my mufflers heat shield came loose and makes a noise too. idk if something is rubbing i looked a little bit and didnt see anything.

any suggestions?

check wheel bases, jack up car and hit the cat with a rubber hammer
