my Brother just bought a '99 Jetta and the Factory stereo is Broken. there is a botton missing and the top of it is flopping around. Is there any toold we need to remove the Stereo? or is it possible to remove it by hand without tools?

there is a special tool, but you can use a coat hanger and bend it in a U shape to get it into the holes on the side of the deck

i'm pretty sure a coat hanger will just do more damage you need some vw radio removal keys to do it without risk of any dash damage

i did it with a coat hanger just fine i didnt hurt anything. Its just a clip inside the holes than needs to be pushed in to remove it

It's a matter of skill coat hanger worked fine here just be careful thats all.

go to the dealer like i did and get the tools there like 4 bucks i think

i got mine out with just butter knives haha. Plus, 24vwhine, the only thing he;ll damage is the radio it self which he is replacing, and the new one should just slide in.
