I replaced the driver's side wheel hub bearing assembly on my girlfriend's 2007 Jetta 2.5 automatic sedan. I had the brake pads resting on the strut spring and unfortunately it fell down and was hanging by the wire. After I put everything back, the brake pad wear indicator light came on, and it's been on for the last few months.

I checked the connection and it seemed to be clicked in properly. Could the wire have stretched when it dropped, causing it to malfunction? This was my first experience working with a braking system with wired brake pads. The brake pads are still pretty thick and are less than a year old. If anyone has tips on how to fix this issue and get the brake pad wear indicator light off, I would appreciate it! Thanks
