this problem didnt just start its been this way since i bought it but lately its gottten worse. sometimes if i run high rpm's the clutch wont go in, or the car just rev's up really high either or. and sometimes it'll work just fine, but the release point is still very high.
is there a way to adjust the clutch pedal or is it another problem?

the clutch had just been replaced, and even after the clutch had been replaced the release point was still high

Try adjusting the cable first. Where the adjuster base meets the top of the transmission you want to have 5mm or so of movment. up and down.

If you have an automatic adjusting cable get rid of it. Manual ones are obvious, auto ones have a big rubber boot on them and are black. The Auto ones can fail over time and they also feel like ****.

Sorting the cable end first at least rules it out. If your getting slipping while under load its obvious its new clutch time. Regardless of if you have to do a clutch or not get a brand new manual adjusting cable. Use a penetrating silicone grease or HSS spray. spray it down the cable until its running out. Let it hang dry for a night then install it. Make sure you re use the rubber foot that came off the old cable where it meets the transmission top. You will have the smoothest clutch you have ever felt!

This^^^^ 9 times out of ten it is the cable on the 020 manual. The manual cable is far superior to the POS self adjusting cables that came on the MK3s.

All Mk3s with an O2O gear box came with the auto adjust, late model mk2s also. Long story short I had to replace mine a few years back when the cable end snapped. Thanks be to Christ it snapped in the driveway while a roomy was moving the car around while I was down under. Even a brand new auto adjusting cable feels like crap next to a manual adjust.

A clutch job on a 2.0 isn't as hard as you think to do. The trans will have to come out. With the axles removed from the diff, the linkage off, and the wiring out the way its only a matter of a bunch of big bolts. I would recommend having a helping pair of hands and a big floor jack. Ive bench pressed a few transmissions in my day and it gets old really fast. Espessialy when the other sap is taking his time getting the first few bolts in.
