Howdy everyone!
I have a 2005 VW jetta and it has been my ride or die for 9 years. I've had a reasonable amount of work put into it over the years, but this last problem has created a lot of frustration for me. I am losing all power while idle or in park at random times. It will drive completely fine, until at random at a light or stop sign will lose total power. When this happens, I can't even use my hazards which is super dangerous considering I work early in the AM when it's still dark. I have brought this to my trusted mechanic SIX times since last April. It seemed like when I brought it in the first time, it was only randomly dying, not losing total power. Every time I pick it up and they say it's fixed, its literal days until it ends up back in the shop.
Here's what I'm told has been replaced:
Battery (a new "better" one)
Ignition system
Fuel pump
A sensor to said fuel pump that they allegedly forgot to check that it's working once they replaced the fuel pump
Main computer relay
Starter
They also have told me that the alternator and engine check out fine.
It's also worth noting that my check engine light is on, but has gone on and off over the past 9 years.
The last time I picked it up which, as you guessed it, was literal days ago they told me they just replaced the starter because upon taking it apart they suggested that the key wasn't syncing up with all it needs to in order to keep things going.
I love my car so much and even though this post may make it seem like it's time to let it go, it still drives really well and gives me the feeling like there could potentially be some decent life left to it. I'd hate to get rid of it if it is indeed just a simple problem to fix. I'm more so honestly just feeling like my trusted "VW specialist" mechanic has taken me for a ride.
Anyone have an insights?
Thanks in advance!
