Hey, my name is Josh. I just got my first car today, happens to be a 2005 Jetta. Payed 12k, it's an automatic with 42k miles on it. I'm joining in hopes that I can learn a bit about cars (nothing serious, but I'd like to know some stuff).

I guess my first question would be about the key...the electronic part doesn't seem to be working. I checked the manual and tried to rekey it to the car; I'm going to go up to the dealer Monday and ask if it's the battery. (It's also missing the panic button...)

Other than that, I was wondering if there's anything I should do to it? The dealer certified it, but is there anything maintenance-wise I should check or do? The car is in good shape, it was used commercially for a few years, and my grandpa's once-over was positive.

Thanks, and I hope I can learn something.

The panic button is entirely missing; none of the other buttons do anything.

Also, switchblade key is the best thing ever.
It has quickly become my new thing to just fiddle around with during meetings and such.
