Ok, my girlfriend just got a 2001 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg, its at 107k and to be safe we are going to do some changes, like oil, transmission, stuff like that. What type of oil do you all recommend (synthetic, we dont know if the previous owner used regular or synthetic, so to save from heart ache, we are getting synthetic)?
I would like to run some seafoam through it was well, in the crankcase *insert gasps here,* I run it through my 96 Ford Ranger every other oil change and it works great. And that brings me to another question, what type of filter do you recommend?
Transmission fluids, what do you recommend? I use Royal Purple in my truck and it worked great, better shifting and all that.
Finally, what type of fuel, regular, mid, or 93? I use mid in my truck so I tend to stay away from regular. I know I am in a different world of vehicles when it comes to the Jetta and my truck, HELP HELP!?

Hi, you will want to use synthetic oil, if the previous owner used synthetic it could be bad for the car to use anything less than that.

It is ok to seafoam the car, there is actually alot of threads on it, and a DIY picture guide. Never done it myself so don't bother asking me how to really do anything.

Not 100% sure about the fuel, but I use 91 and I have a 03 1.8T. Was putting 85 in it a long time ago when I was an idiot and knew nothing about the vehicle I was driving.

I believe it is recommened to use 93 for the 1.8T, but I drive a VR so I'm not 100% sure. I've used Royal Purple tranny fluid in my car and it seems to do just fine for me. Synthetic oil for sure. Is the car up on all maintenance?

You'd want to use 93oct with a turbo motor, it goes for just about any car with one. The higher octane spools up the turbo much faster in less time. My friends a BMW mechanic and races his M3 around the track alot and he was telling me the basics about it, I could get the details from him if you want.
