I have a 2004 Jetta 2.0 how can I tell if my fuel pump is failing?

I have a 2001 Jetta 2.8 VR6 GLX when my fuel pump was going few days prior to fuel going I noticed a sputter while pulling off from a stop at a light. maybe it happened again, but that was the only thing I noticed. If your doing your own double triple check seal ALL THE WAY AROUND the pump I had to re do this 3 times best of luck

Do you have more details? Is there a reason you think it might be failing?

You said you have a 2004 Jetta ... over time and all the **** that is in gas kills the pump, when you pull it out look at the fule liles on the pump Im sure it will be black, dark brown and should be transparent.
