GLI "Chipping" discussion: 2.0FSI Owners:

I have to say, I'm not a Jetta owner, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.™

My dealer had no GLIs to test drive, and if they had the GLI Fahrenheit- I would be driving something bright yellow. So I have a 4dr GTI.

So when it comes down to "chips", a few things:

It's not an actual chip, it's a software upgrade to your engine management software.

You also have some great choices:
Revo, APR, GIAC, Neuspeed(?) and a few others.
Some vendors offer a 5 hour "preview" of their software.

What can go wrong with "chipping"? Some folks have reported having their diverter valve (DV) blow or leak after being chipped. It doesn't happen all the time and it depends on what version of DV is in your car. DVs (vs. BOV s) are a whole 'nother topic.

But as far as best bang for your buck to make the 2.0FSI faster, consider "chipping" it.  8)

But you have to send the module to the company to be upgraded right. That means no car for awhile.
Negative... they can do it at authorized shops in most cases W/O sending the ECU in.

It really depends how far you live from a dealer and what would be faster.

If you send your ECU in, think 2 or 3 days. (one day to send it out, one day for them to flash it, and one day for them to send it back.)

I bought an 04 gli 1.8t about 2 months ago. mine now has a magnaflow exhaust system, full front mount intercooler, freshflow intake and my boost was increased. not sure how much tho. can the 1.8t be chipped as well?
The 1.8t, you either send the ECU in or they swap it for you (it is a physical chip) or go to a tuner that stocks them.

In most cases with a turbo the most gains for the buck are from chipping. If you had a VR6 the chipping only adds 5-10 hp, where w/ the 1.8t with revo you jump from 150hp+160ftLbs of torque---->207hp/232tq.

The Neuspeed ECU jumps up to about 232 (with a P-flow intake)
