Glx? Vr6?

I'm new to this stuff, and not too car-savvy. I'm thinking about purchasing a Jetta sometime soon, and was researching them, according to a website I was checking out, the GLX and the GLS VR6 are the same. So I was wondering what the differences are and which one would be a better purchase?? I'm looking for something that's quick but not going to need a lot of money sunk into it to fix problems and easy to mod. Can anyone help me out??
