Having some key issues.

I bought my 2000 2.0 manual Jetta about a year ago. When i got it the owner gave me both remotes and the valet key. One of the remotes worked and the other was trashed, but now the one working remote is starting to show its age. I would like to take the working key out of the remote and put it into a remote I get from ebay. Will the key out of my stock remote fit in one of the new style square button remotes? If so can all of the square button remotes be programmed to control my car? Thanks for the help.

If you pull it apart there's a circuit board inside and their is a little immobilizer thing in there too. If you swap all the guts then yea but that's the only way with out going to the dealer and getting the new key programmed. The little immobilizer diode is almost impossible to get out without breaking it
