Please help!

I have an '01 Jetta Gls, we did an engine swap about a year ago from the 1.8T to the 2.0T. I have had no issues until now.

It started with the EPC light coming on and me only being able to drive the car at about 5mph, then would give out. so i let the car sit for a few min and started up again. everything was fine. It did this for a day. Back and forth.

Then the next day, I had no issues what so ever, until that night the car died while I was driving. I tried to restart and the car would turn over but would not start. My battery light came on. I let it sit for a few min, started it up again and no problem. And no light.

The next day I start my car, and my check engine light is now on, i turn the car off, get out and the whole garage reeks of gasoline.

I have not messed with it since then.

Has this happened to anyone else? there is no way all these things can go wrong at once. What would trigger it all to happen? Anyone with advice please let me know ASAP!!

how to hell do you swap an engine and not know whats going on?
who did the engine swap? by "we" do you mean the mechanic at a random shop?

Yes i mean at a shop, but no, not random. I can not take it back there because i happen to be in a completely different state. And i would put pictures up, but for some reason it wont let me; hence the non exsistant profile picture.

I came on here for help, not for you to be rude. so if you have any ideas on what the problem is I would love to hear it, otherwise don't worry about it.
