I have a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta Gls 1.8T 5 speed. Last night I was having some fun with a friend on the highway and dropped gears a few times to do some 3rd gear pulls. As I exited the highway, I noticed that the clutch was feeling quite different. From stopped to first, the pedal did not feel as smooth as usual. It felt as if the pedal was releasing the pedal in notches rather than in one slick feeling release. Also, if i am stopped in either first or neutral, and the clutch is the slightest bit engaged, there is a faint buzzing sound, but not like a grinding sound. There is a slight vibration in the pedal as this sound is being made. Once again this occurs when the pedal in only slightly depressed, for example, the weight of a foot resting on it would cause this sound. Is it possible that the seal of the cylinder may be broken allowing fluid to drain and/or air to get into the hydraulic system? If so, would it be the master cylinder or the slave cylinder that could be damaged? And where on the transmission can I locate these cylinders?
**Somebody has told me they believe that I have burned up the clutch by downshifting but when you apply enough gas from when you're stopped getting into first, you cannot feel this issue and feels very smooth. I believe the cluth is not damaged.**
