Hi - I'm having a bit of trouble with my Jetta TX, it's a G reg (1990 model) and has suddenly decided that when I turn off the key - the engine is not going to stop. I'm not sure why it is doing this, does anyone know what it is and can I fix it?
Another problem is I'm trying to get hold of a rear passenger door handle - my sister has managed to break mine and it's coming up tp MOT time! If there's anyone out there from Aberdeenshire - do you know the name of the wee garage on the A96 near Pitcaple who always has a heap of VW's ouside?
Cheers

Dieseling or engine run-on is a condition which can occur in spark plug gasoline powered internal combustion engines whereby the engine keeps running for a short period after being turned off, due to fuel igniting without a spark.
Dieseling is so-named because it is similar in appearance to how diesel engines operate, by firing without a spark. However the ignition source in a diesel is the compression of the gas in the cylinder, while in the dieseling phenomenon the compression ratio is not sufficient to ignite the fuel and it is a hot spot inside the cylinder that starts combustion.
An automobile engine that is dieseling will typically sputter then gradually stop rather than continue running as if the engine was not switched off at all — the latter would usually indicate an electrical fault.

Thanks for that - it is spluttering (did backfire once as a finale to the splutter and nearly caused a full scale panic at the garden centre!). Would getting the car hitched up to one of these auto-tune machines I see at our local market?
Thanks again
Susan;)

Thanks for that - I hadn't thought about the timing, she is due for a new belt at the end of this month (66,000 miles) I think? Well I've ordered a kit anyway - better to be safe than sorry
Will try the tuning too, apart from this she runs perfectly and in these times of rising fuel prices a car which is economical on fuel is worth its weight in gold!
Cheers
