LOL funny. Of course diesels don't use sparkplugs. The new TDIs have direct injection with piezoelectric technology. Which means you don't have to wait for glow plugs to warm up. :coolsmiley:

I have a 2002 Black Jetta TDI, and I love it. It is not fast like my old GTI, but it gets great mpg. I work at the VW dealership in Vancouver WA, and I think I will get the new TDI Jetta due out this spring.... unless the Rabbit hits with a TDI too. The new Rabbit is a great ride.

You know you could make your 02 TDI faster than your old GTI!! Email me if you want. Which dealership do you work at up there? I used to (many years ago) work at Armstrong VW down in Gladstone, OR. Those were the good old days!

;D I know you're there. Tell us about your TDI.
I just bought an '04 Jetta GLS TDI automatic with 50k miles. Paid $12,000 out the door. I think it was in a wreck but it drives straight and the bodywork looks good. There is a smell coming from the A/C-heating system, like an old sock. Dealer said he could do an air-sep treatment to get rid of the smell. I haven't done any modifications yet. I want to see what kind of mileage I am getting before I try to change my car.

2 tanks of diesel and I am currently getting 40.0 mpg. (mixed city/highway driving)
Just increased tire pressure to 40 psi. (hoping this will help a little)

I did get an oil change right after buying the car - Pentosin, Pentosynth 5W-40 TS (VW 505.01) I know it needs special oil.
I had the sepentine belt changed.

I would like to upgrade the momsoon stereo to take input from an iPhone. Does anyone know if I can get something like that from the dealer?

Love the forum...thanks in advance for the help.

Dirty Sock Smell? Try a change of the "Cabin Air Filter" under the dashboard, forward of the passenger seat. This has a carbon element to take out smells, but over time they can generate a world of smell on there own. Carbon is a nice environment for bacterial growth with a little mositure. It is a great medium for filtering, but has a usable shelf-life.:p[good post]

I love my 2006, TDI with DSG. It also gets low 40's in mixed driving conditions. I wish I could get higher. I am looking for a new tire with a "low ROlling Resistance" (i.e. High pressure). Anybody have any clues on this option? VW used to put them on the Jetta (to 50 psi), but where did they go?

I have a 2010 Jetta sportwagen TDI....With manual transmission. I love the car, it's a blast to drive and gets great gas milage. It holds 14 gallons and have got 465 miles to the first tank of gas and the 2nd tank I got close to 480. I drive it hard and I love the torque. I just replaced the 16" wheels last week with a set of 18" Audi R8 OEM wheels and Nitto 555 225/40/18's..It looks awesome now. I agree that anything more than a 18" wheel would look dumb. I call it the Hooptie Impalla effect...I kept the 16"s just in case I did not like it...But I do....I have had 12 vw's in the past Air cooled/ and water cooled..
I purchased the blue slate color with dark grey interior, as the beige leaves marks and dirt and foot prints and scuffs...Went without the sunroof for obvious weight savings and I live in Florida. I also heard it saves weight and handles better without the extra weight up so high. My wife was skeptical at first but now loves the car.
I to was converting from a pickup truck that I needed, but don't now. I sure do not miss filling up the Toyota Tundra at $90 large a fill up....Now I am saving $$$$$ and insurance.....I love my Jetta...I will try to post photos of it now.....Before the wheels and after...Not sure if I have new wheel photos but will take some tomorrow..Good Luck with your decision...I know I won't be looking back...
Could not get photos to load but here is a link to photos of my car....

I cannot say how much it effects milage yet. I am only on my third tank of gas. I just changed the wheels during the 2nd tank, so this fill up will be the true test. It may not be a lot of difference as I measured the tires with the 16" VS. the 18" and the width was only 1" wider which is what I think would make the difference. Due to more tire width to cut thru the wind. I will post my 3rd tank results when fill up again. But that could be a while. ;) Also my results won't be based only on highway, but rather mostly city stop and go...
The Nitto 555's 225/40/18's seem to be a great fit. They have a great rim protector and are sticky enough for some hard cornering.
I have noticed the car seems to accelerate a little slower than with the 16's, but If I was worried about that I would have bought the GTI...I did hear someone has a module that will help produce another 30 hp...Maybe in the future...I am also looking into lowering springs about an 1" would be perfect. I called Eibach and they do not have them for the 2010 model yet...[wtf]

New Photos are now available on my older post ENJOY!!!![woo]
