Yes yes..... I felt the same way again when the bastard that sold me the alt. wasn't going to get me the other one like he said because 'Oh its stripped out.....' He's a damn mechanic he must have a saws-all or a torch........

Well in the pas 2 days I just reached the 300.00 USD mark in new parts....... that i didn't need and now here i am buying another alternator for 125..... this is b.s... I am starting to frown on VW's but they are reliable when runing!!

Easy there killer...

Don't blow the car up, that's bad news - one word: shrapnel. The parts guy / mechanic on the other hand :knuppel2: ... you do what you think is right.

I can appreciate your frustration, but don't let this bad experience with you parts guy sour you on VW - from what I hear, that's how the terrorists win... Use the occasion of your 100th post to turn that frown upside down, and remember how much fun driving O0 is! Good luck with your project - it's going to be allright.

100th post and I couldn't be any happier.... Got a new alternator which was the problem...... Car is running like a charm.

After all was said and done to fix this problem completely we got an alternator, sparkplug wires, starter, re-wired the front end harness...... But all in all back together and running great! Happy as a VW driver.....

You're never supposed to disconnect your battery cable when the car is runnig. If your alternator wasn't bad before you disconnected the positive terminal to here it sputter, It surely was bad after. Unless you like buying alternators stop pulling the cable off when it's runnig!!!!

I think he meant the battery jump box he was starting it with. With a fried alternator, the battery was probably all the way dead, and when he disconnected the box, the car would die. Incidentally, the new (?) battery may be fried now too, if it was allowed to completely discharge. Take it somewhere to be tested...
