While driving yesterday in hot weather the car just turned off as if the key was turned. I didn't loose electrical power, but RPMs went to 0 immediately.

Would not start for atleast 10 minutes, then it started smoothly and normally. When it would not start the engine wouldn't even turn over, there was no cranking at all, but again all utility electrical was working normally.

The battery light came on when it died, but I think that is just because the RPM went to 0, unsure.

After starting it drove for 2 mins, then died again. Started first try after 1 minute.

Let it sit for about 30 mins, drove it for about 10 mins to get a battery check, did not die again. No battery issue, voltage looked normal on the tester but I didn't see the actual number.

Going now to get the codes read.

Any thoughts?

Those are the symptoms of a crank sensor going bad. Could check all your wires, ground wires, and battery terminals first though.
You are the second person to say crank sensor. I looked up the other symptoms and they seem to match.

The part is only 50$ and looks like a repair I can do on jacks if I 'rent' a couple of jack stands. I'll go do it this weekend, see how it goes.

Crankshaft sensor replaced, no more issues. I wouldn't have thought to look into that without your suggestion, thank you.

I had a garage do it for 200$ labour + coolant, he also did the thermostat. I provided the parts, which were 52$ for the sensor and about 20$ for the thermostat. Replaced the thermostat because of a separate issue, it was leaking.

not bad, but it's not your thermostat that leaks it's the housing, but it could have just been a gasket
