I have a 2002 VW jetta with an auto transmission. I put my car into drive and it doesnt start out in first gear. It starts out in 2nd or 3rd and stays in that gear the entire time when driving. This is obviously not a good thing. Any ideas what may be causing this? Appreciate any help.

your trany valve body is bad or your shift sensors are bad well those problems are very comon on jettas. also does your car have the check engine light on. if you do you can put an obd2 scanner on to it to check the codes out. and you can go from there
