Okay here's my question. I test drove a 08 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition today and found it very appealing to what I'm looking for in a vehicle. The price range was a little high for me though but I'm sure I can get them down a little. (Asked 22,000) Anyways I'm trying to convince myself to get this or a Subaru. Either a WRX (not sti) or a plain Impreza. Or even a Legacy GT. The Jetta for some reason didnt seem sporty enough for me for the price range. Don't get me wrong its a classy car with a lot of style and hp but for me being 20 I kind of want something more aggressive looking and a little more for the money. My friend test drove the new R32 as well. I did like the feel and look of it but for 32 grand that is out of my price range. Any suggestions for me? Please feel free to correct me on any errors; if I made any. Even refer me to someone else I can speak with. Im new to VW but I am starting to develop a taste for there style. Thanks for the help I appreciate it!

One more side note. I am looking for a dependable car for gas milage too. I think that close to 30 mpg highway would be a step up from the truck I have now. 01 S10 V6 4.3 L that literally inhales gas.

Hmmm... Well coming from a similar truck gas-inhaling experience (4.0L V6 33" tires), either of those cars (Jetta or Subaru) would give you better mileage. One thing you have to think about, no matter what the mileage stamped on the window-sticker, is how you are going to drive the thing. For example, I ended up with a 2004 Jeta 1.8T, which the sticker says should get about 30mpg on the highway, got 19mpg (just a little better than my truck did) when I first got it; mainly due to how I was driving (turbos are fun when you discover them for the first time). Now I'm getting closer to 27mpg since I have removed most of the lead from my right foot. The same "depending on how you are going to drive it" sentiment goes for dependability as well. Although in VWs defence, I do see more older VWs than Subarus on the road with a ton (over 150,000) of miles on them.

One deciding factor for me would be the price of the Subaru vs the Jetta (they seem to be pretty comperable cars). Have you looked at, and driven, the Subarus in question? How much would a Subaru that is comperable to the Jetta Wolfs cost (I assume WRX)? Also, how important is all-wheel drive to you (Subaru only)?

Thanks guys for the post. See the thing is though is that in actuality I don't have the money for a 20,000 car myself. I just got a part time job at Best Buy for only 11 an hour. And the drive back and forth is about 20 miles. All highway but still I don't even get 20 on highway with my truck. Anyways, the way I see it now is that I'm paying a car payment with gas. So for now I'm okay. I need to save some money about a quarter to what the value of a car I want would be, and then consider it. The truck I have now is my dads too. We share it so he uses it for work so I'm not too sure he will be willing to trade in. Its a long story with no ending. lol But that's pretty much where I am at. I just would like a regular car for once in my life. Approaching the 20 mark so I hope it happens soon!

If anyone else could offer a suggestion I would appreciate it!

I spend about 50 to 60 a week on gas. With work and some leasure.

Yes I think that the turbo Jetta's would be out of my league for now. I don't have the money to pay for premium every week. I just need to find a decent 4 cly to be good in snow for the northeast and also good on gas. Like everyone else. lol
