Hey there, JJ here. Looks like a great community here and glad to be a part of it. I'm new to the modern VW's.(priviously had a 71 Karmann Ghia, and 79 Westphalia) Recently bought a 2002 vw Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo triptronic auto. I bout for 3,500 which was above blue book, but was the cheapest in town. It's in good shape leather monsoon stereo has 150k. Do you think this is a fair price? They seem to hold their value well. The ride is stiff but I think I need new suspension it doesn't seem to dampen sharp bumps in the road. Additionally there is a metal clanking noise from driver front side when hitting a sharp bump. It sounded like maybe a sway bar was disconnected and was striking metal when riding over sharp bumps oin the road. I took it to my mech. to look at. We didn't see anything but the strut assembly seemed to move a bit. Could that be the cause of this noise? I also had codes pulled (the engine light is on) I received code 413, 340, and 11. Any tips would be welcome. I'm pretty mechanical and was wondering if new suspension is something I could do with standard tools. I really like the feel of the car and would like to keep it running great. I drive a lot and the roads here are pretty bad (huge potholes form overnight throught the city) I'm a real estate agent so I do a heavy mix of highway and neighborhood driving as well. Thanks for advice in advance:D
