hey guys
i'm 19 and i'm on my second used jetta. i just got an '01 with the 1.8T.
it's a tight car, but i'm lookin for more power and mileage. so i looked into computer chips. one i found was only $79, and it added like 50 horse. can't bring myself to believe. does anyone have any reliable chips to refer me to?

Unless it's APR, unitronic, or GIAC, I wouldn't bother. You get what you pay for. I think Chris(boostaddicted) said an APR tuned ECU for the 1.8T gives about 215hp, and those chips run around $200.

on the contrary dependes what engine you have since you have an 01 that would be the AWW engine I believe and will only be pusing the 150 hp mark so if you were to chip it would probably get you to 185 on 3 octane maybe im wrong Boost aka Chris know more

Vix, thats a no no. APR charges you 500 bucks.
And in his case, hes got 150 HP model, so he'll go only up to 205hp (93 octane program ) if im not mistaken, which is a lot by the way.
Still a great hp/dollar. ;D

APR's 93 octane will get you up to 209 horsepower, 242 ft/lbs of torque.. And torque is much more important than horsepower lol.

All legit chips cost $500, but its definitly worth it. To be honest, if I could do it all over, I'd go with Unitronics. A bit more powerful, same price, and a very smooth ride feel.

Legit companies are Unitronics, APR, GIAC, Neuspeed, and Revo. Also Rocket Chip, but almost nobody has heard of them (Him, actually... One man company) cause he does mostly diesels, but his tuning is second to none.. Just AMAZING work.

Usually what people do is get the chip that has the dealer closest to them. APR and Uni have websites you can enter in your zipcode to find out where they're located. Just google em'.

Hope this helps

K04 isnt really worth the money but theres no arguing when it comes to the fun you get out of it lol

Difference is... Just a few little things in the tuning, quality of service, and if you DO get a bigger turbo later, Unitronics will charge you about $300 less than APR to get yours upgraded to the new setup.

Unitronics is much better IMO, with everything including service. Though Chris Gigon from APR is extremely helpful with everything I've called about.

Ah ****, sorry I forgot to answer those questions lol

Stock exhaust sucks up almost 20hp in a tuned 1.8T. If you start somewhere, start with the downpipe. When you get this, you can reuse stock o2 sensors, but you'll need to buy a ''wayne angle block''. It simply spaces your o2 sensors so you don't get a CEL for your catalytic converter. After that, the cat back will complete the exhaust, OR you can just get the full turboback exhaust right off the bat.

Either way, an exhaust is well worth the investment once you're chipped.

And plugs... Once you're chipped, they need to be gapped to .028, whereas stock is .032. Most people run NGK BKR7E plugs. They're like $2 a pop.

yep, i just bought the plugs.
what im trying to say is, if i get the chip by itself and run it with no ups, am i gonna **** something up?
would you rather do exhaust then chip or the other way around?

Oh, no your fine... I have stock exhaust still lol, its a shame.. Tuned for over a year, same 50mm downpipe and 2'' exhaust...

But definitly gap those plugs to .028 or your car wont run right.

And expect your coil packs to die shortly after chipping if you havent changed them already lol

are the horsepower and torque specs for the 01 model engine (150hp) or the 2002.5 up engine (180hp)

ONE more thing lol

Might want to think about an FMIC before an exhaust. Extra boost from the tune heats up intake temps alot, and the stock IC's heatsoak easily. Actually all the info is in the other thread we're talking in lol

Nope not the whole shebang yet... Got the money, but not the time lol

And those hp/tq specs I posted earlier was for the 2001 model. 2002 and up get 215 horsepower, 247 ft/lbs torque.
