there is a kind of loud ticking coming from a black rectangle shaped box next to the engine and the coolant globe... I was thinking it might be some type of valve or thermostat... I dont know anything about these cars... THis is my first... Anyone have any ideas... I know its not the enigne though...

Looks like a power steering fluid reserve, or a brake fluid tank...........

no brake fluid would above the master cylinder next to the brake booster above the brake pedal... this is right beside the engine and coolant reserviour on the passenger side of the vehicle... anyone else got any ideas... what the box is... the ticking is loud and obnoxious...

again help no real answers

the ticking sound comes the black box... it is the box with the green cap looking thing on top of it... that is the coolant reservoir above it.. this is a mk 4 2.0 setup... it doesnt do it on start up... starts doing it later... any clue...

it would go to the power steering pump then to the rack and pinion, is it ticking while driving or just idling, or the whole time.

the ps pump might be low on fluid, check its up or inbetween the max and min fill lines. maybe the ps pump is worn, not likely the case but it could be a possibillity
