My '06 TDI with a DSG gets 38 to 42 mpg no matter what I do. My old '98 TDI with a 5-speed got 45 to 54. (It got 38+ towing a trailer, for heaven's sake.) I like the A5, but what happened to the good fuel consumption?

Also, is the latest 'green' diesel better than my '06?

My dad just ordered an 09 TDI, the green diesel, its supposed to get between 45 and 55 mpg; but it hasn't come in yet so don't have any specs. Its definitely more powerful than the 1.9TDI. its got 140 HP and 240 TRQ. Its almost as quick as my GLI.
