Need new door handle cable

Its a 2006 jetta tdi. The inside drivers side latch release cable broke abt 1.5 in. From the release handle. I think what we need to do is somehow swage a new cable end onto it, replacing the short release handle section that broke. The break is a short ways inside the upper end of the tubing/ sleeve. It should be possible to cut it enough to expose the wire end for swaging new end connection on. Im just guessing we wont find an aftermarket release cable?
