HA no one seems to know S**t about these trannys - or they're keeping it to themselves! I put 13,000 miles on it manually shifting 3 forward gears. I changed the fluid and EV7 Solenoid. Then I ohm tested the pin outs at the tcm - which indicated bad g38 AND g68 speed sensors. my old pc died so i have no access to the pdf VW manual i used, and i don't remember the specs - but the ohm readings were WAY off. SO I finally just changed the g38 and cleared the codes with a generic obd2 scanner. it acted strange at first, still shifting manually. The next day i drove it I lost 2nd gear - it went into limp mode (1st & 3rd). I went 30 miles. when i started it to go back home (it was dead cold), i had 2nd back, and i could shift from 1st to 3 or D, and it would shift properly - running 1st n 2nd out to what i'm guessing are the proper shift points (which it never did before) - still no 4th (D). I hate guessing and making assumptions, but apparently the computer is re-learning something is fixed! germanautoparts.com listed the sensor i replaced as g38/g68 and don't list a g68 for a mkIII 01m. I've also heard there were 3 different g68's used on o1m's. SOO another few days of driving and i'll take the batt box n trans mount off to get the part no. off the g68 (idk why German a/p doesn't list a separate g68 for this car). I'll also re-scan for codes and post it when i'm done.... it should be helpful to someone!
