I picked up this 94' Jetta for $3000 a few days ago. Its a chipped 2.0 8v with a Neuspeed supercharger and cold air intake. It has a Gti front end, straight body, clean black leather interior. Its fast and i'm happy with it but there are a few issues i'd like to get some help with. The brakes won't hold pressure. If I compress it quickly it will hold pressure briefly and slow the car but then go all the way to the floor. I bled them and it did nothing, which leads to to think its my master cylinder. Also, its quite hard to get it into gear at times. And sometimes makes a firm clunking sound when put into gear, with an occasional grind. The guy I bought it from said he just recently put a new clutch in it. So, could it be the shifter linkages needs adjusting? I've heard VW's commonly have issues with that. Another thing is it has a very low and kind of choppy idle, which could very possibly just be caused by the supercharger but i'm not sure. Finally, the throttle is very stiff, and I mean VERY stiff. I have no idea why or what could cause that. So with all that being said I would very much appreciate any input or advice for my problems. Or tips on how to make this thing a true beast.

For brakes, I would check your lines and make sure there are no leaks. With a 94 you most likely have rear drums, and the rear wheel cylinders often leak. I would just check everything first before you go ahead and buy a master cyl. Do your grinds happen in certain gears normally, or all of them at times? New trans fluid will often go a long way if you dont know for sure its been changed. As for your idle, check for vacume leaks, and unplug your maf and see if it runs any worse...Report back with findings.

Okay thanks, i'll give those things a shot and post again soon. But as for the gears its always reverse and first that grind, second is sometimes a little reluctant to go into gear but never grinds.

looking at the picture of the engine bay, your throttle cable being stiff could be cause due to the way the cable is routed, I am not 100%, or it could be to short, try taking the cable off the thottle body and work the lever, if it moves freely have someone hold the cable while you step on the pedal and see if it still is tight
