Hey guys,
I'm completely new to VW and I'm looking into buying a fourth generation Jetta. I really like the way they look and I'm ready to get rid of my SUV. So I have a few questions:
1) Dependability, how dependable are they? how many miles are too many miles for Jettas?

2) Repair cost, I can repair just about anything myself, so how much do parts usually run and if I have to, how much do general repairs cost? maybe even some extreme repairs

3) Fuel mileage, what kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting?

4) Best year, what is the most reliable or seemingly best year for fourth gen Jettas?

5) Automatic or manual?

Ok, thanks for any and all replies!

1) Can't tell you yet as i havn't had mine very long but in any car if it is well kept and the maintenance needed is done u can get well over 200k

2) things that will cost you the most are sensors/VW specific parts.

3) avg 25-30 (Mk3)

4) Best year, what is the most reliable or seemingly best year for fourth gen Jettas?

5) Manual is always better when it comes to mileage (better imo when it comes to general feel) though it does require more coordination than automatic

1. Very dependable if you know how to do normal upkeeps..
2. Parts are a little more expensive than an american made verhical.... but worth it all the way.
3. Depends on what mods, and size of your engine....... i'll tell you the VR6 fully modded will chug the gas down quick...
4. Not a big fan of newer jettas so i couldn't tell you...
5.Manual all the way... automatic trans usually go after 200k+

6. Jettas are way worth it..
