Newbie questions RE: '94 Jetta GL

Hi everyone, I searched and came up empty. I just bought a low mileage (184,000kms), east coast, '94 Jetta GL 2.0 with auto trans the other day and took it to Canadian tires for the usual stuff (i.e. oil change, tune up, alignment, tranny oil change, etc.). Now, the problem I have is that:

1.) The rear brake lights (including the third brake lights) aren't working (bulbs are all new).
2.) When I engage the parking brakes, the daylight running lights turn off.
3.) The power locks dont work.
4.) The trunk doesn't open from the outside and intermittently opens from the button inside the glove box.

My main concern is the brake lights not functioning as they should be. I know for CAN$1000 I shouldn't expect a "cleaner" car. I basically want these issues corrected as I am planning on selling my Jeep and using this as my daily driver. Any advice would be highly appreciated. And as for the "search button" thing, I apologise in advance for not having the patience to search harder. Thanks and happy motoring! ;)

1. For the brake lights, check your fuses. You might have a bad one.
2. It's supposed to do that :)
3. Check fuses maybe? Not positive about that.
4. The trunk might be the locking mechanism. Mine went out on my '96 and I had to have it replaced by a locksmith to match my keys.

;) Thanks big guy! The writing on the fuse cover is in french!!! I guess Ill have to go to an auto supply store to get a Haynes manual or something. Just in case its not the fuse, are there any relays that I sure be aware of that goes out? I had my hubby check the fuses and all of them seemed fine. Ill just have him check it again, he probably "checked" them while having a few beers with his buddies. :D
French? Now that's weird!

And I found this diagram over a VWVortex:...

Oh and welcome to JJ!
Wow, thanks! What a hero. It turns out that the fuses were burnt. Altough they looked fine at first glance, a thorough inspection revealed that they were in fact burnt out. Thanks again! ;)
No prob! Glad it all worked out :)

Spend the money and get a Bentley manual...you'll be glad you did!

Will the Bentley Manual have something that would explain why my Jetta sputters when the temp guage gets to about 70* C? It started doing that the other day and I was wondering what it was. When I took it to the mechanic, it didn't do it. I guess it only happens when I go on long drives. When I get off the freeway, it seems to sputter much like a carbed car not getting enough gas or something. Is there a thread here that I can refer to? Thanks in advance everyone!!! :)
