I'm trying something new. I put Frost King duct insulation on my airbox. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but should make for my intake air staying colder longer, but more importantly seals up those holes I drilled on the cold side of it to quiet it down.

Summer Update Pics

Retrofits have eyelids now (I don't care what you say, I really like the way they look on my car, maybe it's just the retrofits).
Painted PIAA Super Rozzas all graphite.

Next up, black calipers, new rear tires 225/35-19, side skirts, the rare interior VW factory carbon fiber trim kit.

Instaled the front KYB AGX adjustables last weekend. The ride is incredible. Unfortunately I think I want a tiny bit more low up front, so after all that work, I may change out my H&R sport springs for Eibach Sportlines.

I'm not one to cheap out on suspension for a German car, and I'm old school from back when watercooled VW were lowered for function, not fashion so no I'm not going to put some cheapo coils on, especially when I love the feel of my new shocks. If I decide I want coils, they will be H&R and fully adjustable. However I'm beginning to think I'm going to finish up with this car since it's just a daily and spend money instead on a new autocrosser.

Thinking e36 BMW 3-series, mk3 Vr6 GTI, mk2 2.0 16V, a 16V rocco, 944, or 914.

Not a bad idea to dump.money elsewhere.

Yes, but I love this car and will most likely never stop dumping money into it, even when a new autocrosser joins the family. Anyways I still have a few things to finish up. Side skirts are on the way, just ordered Bonrath lowered spring caps for the front to bring it down another 1/2in, Continental DWS tires, new paintjob in the next couple years, Techtonics full exhaust coated black, etc.

Anyways, I still have to figure out how to get the wife to approve another car that I will be spending lots of time under the hood, and also figure out how it will be stored.

Spring caps never arrived. FU TMTuning. But fortunately the Polo bushings came and dropped me almost another inch in the front. Beauty, eh. 1 inch drop for less than $40.

Also picked up a set of fat 5's and come sun, they will replace the PIAAs. I love those wheels and spent 500+ hours sanding them, but I bought a set of 16" La Castanellas (2002 GLX wheels) for winter and love the comfort, improved handling, and better acceleration (lots lighter) of the 16"s. So I think the 17's will be a good balance of comfort and hotness, not performance though.

The bad is that the fatties weigh 3 lbs more per piece than my PIAAs and I have a nearly stock 2.0.

The AST is a great tire for the cost. I'd really prefer a set of Nitto Motivos for a softer, quieter ride and will probably swap them out soon down the road, but these are very quiet and handle well even in rain storms.

Thinking next up will be get my upper and lower grills painted Black Magic Pearl.

75500 miles today.

Got R32 control arm bushings in today. Didn't need them but I figured if I'm going to spend $130 for an alignment I better not need ro take my suspension apart again anytime soon. Car feels amazing. My best setup yet.

To sum up. My suspension setup is H&R sport springs, KYB AGX adjustables, Polo upper strut bushings, and R32 control arm bushings.

Grill going in to body shop on Wednesday to be painted Black Magic Pearl. Got some bmp 20th mirrors coming soon to match.

Feels better than when I drove it off the dealer lot brand new.

75571 miles.

Utilized Americas Tire return policy and traded in those uncomfortable Kumhos for Nitto Motivos.

After a long drive with the family to the beach this weekend I had a 180 degree change of heart on the ASTs. They got kind of noisy and were really uncomfortable on rough roads.

We'll see how these go and if I still don't like the ride I'll try the DWS and if that doesn't work I guess I will have to say bye to the fatties and try to find some 16" BBS's.

I hate comprimises.

Sure, stay tuned. I don't stay satisfied long. I've got some ideas I'm going over.

Looking into Bora R bumpers, bags or coils in 50,000 miles, Mirror polishing the fat fives, full GLI trim, Neuspeed Supercharger, maybe do a new set of retrofits.

I've actually done a little research and am softening my strong opinions against bags. You're never gonna catch me stretching or poking though.

Picked up my grille this morning. Black Magic Pearl is an incredible color. It's really too bad pictures can't possibly do it justice. Can't wait to get my mirrors and lower grilles done in it.

Switched to chrome front emblem, and removed eyelids because for some reason the black grille seemed to make them seem off. I liked them with the white grille but not so much black.
