Hi all,
I'm on a road trip, about a thousand miles from home. Yesterday I noticed that my front right tire was low where it hadn't been the day before. I figured I had a slow leak, so I used a fix-a-flat to see if that would keep me going til I got home.
Today I noticed that when I got to about 50 miles an hour, the steering wheel started to shake. I figured the fix-a-flat had screwed up the tire's balance, so I took it into the local VW dealership in Providence, RI, and they replaced the two front tires (they only had about 5k miles left on them anyway, and I was planning on replacing them when I got home), and balanced and aligned them.
I got back on the road. I noticed some shaking, but it wasn't in the steering wheel anymore; it was all over. I chalked this up to the bad roads. But the more I drove, the more I realized that, between 50 and 65 MPH, the whole car vibrates. If I go up to 70, it smooths out. And if I drive slower than 50, it feels okay.
I still have 2 days on my trip before I get home, and I can't spend another day sitting in a dealership. Does this sound like something that can wait until I drive from New England to Charlotte, NC? The guy in the service department said they didn't see any other issues. I imagine they would have noticed a bad axle or ball joint if either of those were an issue?
Thanks for any advice!
2006 Jetta with about 90k miles.
Oh, and I should add that the car isn't pulling in any direction. If I let go of the wheel, it stays straight.
