Should I buy a GLi??

I hear so little about the gli. So I know so little about them.

I'm looking at a 2002 GLI, it looked no different from my 2000 2.0. This GLI is even the same dark blue with plain red tails.

Ok, It is a 6-speed. It has black leather heated seats, but that's it.
Not even Turbo, just 6-speed VR6. Aren't the newer '04 GLI's a 6-speed 1.8t?

Is something like that really worth $5k?
It has a 3inch Flowmaster exhaust, LOL, that will have to go.
And a SRI. Just 2 mods...

So a VR never came with a turbo there's already more power in a stock VR then a 1.8t second it sounds just like a glx with leather seats and all red tails a GLI will also have a lip on the trunk and chrome rubs and recaro seats any pics of his glx?

i have a 2005 gli and its a 1.8 i know they were vr6 but either way still a nice car but it should look like my car unless they changed the style of them? but yeah if its anything like mine its worth it theyre great cars stock but if you like to do alot of work then a just a plain stock one would be just as good you can upgrade the suspension and everything to your liking but stock the gli is great =) also you could always turbo the vr6 and make it into a beast lol
It doesn't have the trunk lip. And it's just the usual VW Leather seats..
But it has the GLI badge and it's 6-speed. Says GLI on the title under model.
The dash gauges are even the plain black. Maybe if he'll take $4k I should have to take it??

Sorry can't post pics of it. But cosmetically it looks great.

It realy just sounds like a glx what color the brake calipers? Pretty sure they came with red calipers

Edited do to double post
The calipers were that raw, ass-like color.

Just found an ad for an '02 1.8t here for $3300obo...

You could always get the vin and call the dealer to confirm that its a GLI if your having doubts
well also look at the shift nob, ask if they changed it. Should say GLI on it heh, not much help but also like they said check for the lips + recaro seats. another thing is the GLI's usually come with a different interior features such as...

-polished steel interior (around the radio/door handles)
-"race" pedals and footing.
-and if im completely correct all gli's come with chrome rub strips + red calipers.

It might be a VR6 GLX which is not a bad car. much more power to work with than a 1.8t, if you turbo the VR6 you will surely have a monster, Leather seats its nice and actually fun to have. (classy) only thing that differs might be suspension and some add ons as body kit + rims. so check that too.
Does the GLX have a 6-speed gearbox?
The shift knob looks like the stock 5-speed knob, but shows the 6th gear below 5...
It doesn't have the brushed steel interior. I've seen some with it and some without.

I didn't think of calling a dealer with the vin.

GLX is a 12v VR with a 5 speed and came with wood trim. Only the GLI Jettas and 20th Golfs came 6 speed with brushed aluminum trim.

That IS a GLI. Its the 24v VR with 201hp. It should have 17" monte carlo wheels. And honestly a 3" exhaust isn't too bad, but 2.5" is best for NA VR. If the mileage isn't too high, I would pay $5k for it. Don't settle for a 1.8t, they are dime a dozen. The 24v is hard to find.

yeah i mean i wouldnt pay that for it but if it makes you happy lol but they are nice cars either way itll make you happy vr6 or a 1.8 both are great both are fun both have drawbacks so its all choice and it sounds like that gli had some stuff wrong with it if it isnt stock or just replaced things i would just get it checked out before you buy it so you dont buy it and get stuck with something thats a money pit =/ gl man

Wtf so it only being a 24v makes it a GLI they didn't throw all the other GLI goodies in?

Nope, just the engine, tranny, and wheels.

X2. 24v gli come with heated non-recaro cloth or leather seats. Reg trim. Sunroof. Montes or 8 rex. No front or rear lips. Candy canes or all red tails. No fogs. Just reg headlights

I sent this thru the Intranet™
It'd just be unfair if it had all the goodies AND was a 24v, nobody would buy anything else lol
Thanks y'all!
I have to believe Vix here. I now remember hearing there's a 12v VR6 and a 24v VR6...
Yep yep. Wish I could have found a 24v instead of a 12v but they're rare around me.

I have an 02 GLI and it has different leather seats than a normal jetta. 02 was the first year for the GLI on the mk4 platform. It's loaded like a glx except the GLI has the 6 speed gearbox. My GLI dont have factory fog lights neither does the 03 GLI. Best I can tell 04 was the first year of brushed aluminum trim. 02-03 was the only years of 24v VR6 according to the vw dealer and the info I can find. Try edmunds.com it'll tell you all about the 02 GLI.
