I noticed some small metal shavings on my dipstick of my 02 jetta gls 2.0L. So I immediately changed the oil, and I can still see them there. car is approaching 100k, but runs like a top. Never had a problem with it, changed oil every 5k and is up on maintenance. Bought the car certified preowned over 5 years ago, best car I have ever owned otherwise. What do the shavings mean??

Could just be from normal engine wear. Have you ever looked at some of the stuff that comes out in the oil filter?
Go to ecstuning.com and pick up a magnetic drain plug. That will collect most of it and you just clean off the plug when you change the oil.
