i just bought a 96 jetta and once in a while a little wisp of smoke will come out fom under the steering wheel from the ignition area. it only happened for like a second or two but last time i got a look and saw a plug not fully together, i dunno if that fixed it cuz i havent seen smoke in a week, but all suggestions are open please.

Also i was told when i bought the car that when its below a half tank that it has a tendency to act like its not getting gas. he said this only happens when your at a red light or stop sign and try to go. now i was wary of this for about a week and didnt let it go below a half tank, but in the last 3 days i have the gas light has come on and all and no signs of hesitation. anyone ever hear of this before???

please let me know if you have any advice for the problems above. thanks

Remove the wheel and covers and access your ignition. The wires melt going to the switch and will cause problems later. If you fixed the resistance problem already with that plug, then now you need to address any damage that may have been caused. If the wires are overheated, then repair them and replace the switch for good measure.
