Ok...... I am not sure on how many makes or models this has effected but my 1992 Jetta GLI 2.0 8v starter is mounted to the engine mount as well as the bolt going through the transmission braket.

I just wanted to let everyone know that didn't know, Block your engine and transmission up before removing your starter. When we removed the bottom bolt the engine almost fell onto my grandfathers head :|!!!!!

Also by blocking up the engine it will make a much easier attempt to put it back on. I suggest jacking the car up, then block your engine, remove your starter and if the engine drops for some reason all you have to do is let the jacks down a little until the blocks push the engine brackets back into alignment.

Be careful was pretty scarey when this happened!!!

I thought so before we herd on the news, "A man was killed whilst removing his 1992 Jetta starter when the engine block dropped on his face crushing his skull....... More to come on the 11 o'clock news!"
