Just another note, my '95 has two switched hot wires in the harness. One does not carry enough power to turn the amp in my alpine head unit on. All the lights turn on and the disk spins up but there is no sound. Both switched hots were the same color wire too.

Chris, the problem is probably the fact that your jetta doesnt seem to have a ignition 12+ wire(at least thats what the info you provided says) i'm not real sure about the mk2 but i can tell you that the yellow wire on the Kenwood should go to a 12+ source which again accordijng to your info should be your red wire on the jetta harness. That leaves the red wire from the Kenwood which needs to be hooked to a 12+ source when the ignition is turned on (this could be wired to the red wire as well but the unit would not cut off with the ignition). The blu/white will not be used and your unit doesnt have a illumination circuit so it works off the ignition or the red wire on the Kenwood. Invest in a test light if you havent already done so. Both the Red and the Yellow on the HU must have 12+ in order to work. If they both have 12+ and you have a good ground, (brown on the Jetta) the unit should power up, if it doesnt its toast.
