I am retarded when it comes to stereo...

I have a sub and amp all hooked up ready to go. BUT I'M STUMPED.
I have been reading and come to conclude that the Remote Wire is just a fancy name for the Power Wire?

Which Wire in the Birds Nest in the Dash of a Jetta MK4 is the one I should tie my sub into?
I've thought of 2 options here, The 12v Power Wire that powers the stereo or the Antenna Wire that has a label on it saying it get's power too?

I read somewhere saying that if I tie it to the antenna wire then the sub will only work when the radio is on. I was thinking the Power for the Radio would be good because it turns off when the car is off and I'd like it on whenever music is on anyway..

Suggestion?

PS- There is no wire coming out of my aftermarket stereo that is marked Remote. The only Blue Wire is marked Rear Right Speaker.
It does have 4 RCA Plugs.

my deck didnt have a remote wire either so what i did was wire it to something that comes on with the car. I havent yet done it in my jetta, but in my ford explorer, i wired it to the cig lighter. im not sure if that stays on when the car is off or not though. Also if nothing else you could just extend the wire and run it to your fuse box and wire it to something in there. hope this helps...Alex

That's one of the simplest and best ideas I've heard in along time.

I will certainly try this! I tried wiring it to the Power Wire on the Radio. It worked but the Amp stayed on while car was off. I don't understand since the stereo shuts off when the car is off. Probably some internal switch, guessing that's what the ignition toggle wire running to the stereo is for.

The Cig Lighter is always on in the car, since it charges my phone when the car is off...
Trying to think of something that turns on and off with the car right now. So far I'm stumped, might go to radio shack to get a simple switch.

on ur aftermarket one it could be marked power antenna instead of remote but just connect it to the 12v ignition that powers on the radio
View attachment 4990 make sure nothin is connected to this pin or u wont be able to scan ur computer when u get a check engine light
u dont really want switch because sooner or later youll forget to turn it off and it will just drain ur battery

another option is a line out converter that connects to your stock amp. it converts a freefloating current like the one on your monsoon amp... if you have one into a solid current. never done it myself but heard of it done. look for a diy on vortex. i know its possible. its wat they do when u wanna add subs to an oem headunit.

There is something that says "electric antenna-Do Not Ground"

Was scared to touch it. The only other options were the one for the car ignition and the Power wire for the stereo.
The power wire left it on while the car was off. Haven't tried the others yet.

For now I wired it to a switch, I'll be cleaning up the install throughout the week. I need to tuck the wires under the rug and figure
out a way to lose this switch... I was anxious to just be able to hear this thing. 15inch sub in ported box with 1000w amp

Cake? I hope so..

I have a cheap WalMart stereo. It is 120watt. I only got it because when i got the car it had no stereo and this one was $40 with USB and SD Slot..
It is a VR3 Stereo. The amp is an Audio Phonix 1000w. It has a lot of inputs/outputs, switches and knobs. I tried looking it up, can't find it anywhere.
The speaker is a 15" Planet Audio 3000w.

Funny Story- When I bought the sub the guy asked me "you want me to carry it to your car?" I said "no, i got it" then I went to lift it.....I changed my mind, and let the guy carry it for me.. LOL I wasn't expecting it to be around 75lbs. Geeeez!

Like I said, retarded when it comes to stereo.. I've seen your youtube vids... So Awesome!

allright well....this should be what you need,,,, with your vr3 you can run a wire for remote from the Power antenna wire shuld be orange? that will act as a safe remote for you....

also some fun facts about your setup: your amp will put out ~160 watts Rms at 2 ohms. our amp is not 1ohm stable. Your subwoofer can handle 1500watts rms and can be wired to 2 ohms.

*tips maybe advice?* well what encloseure are you gonna be looking for? sealed ported? also my advice is lose the amp asap. a great amp for that sub on a budget would bethe hifonics hfi1000d wuld give you 1k at 1ohm and 500watts at 2ohm. for 180$ id bet your sub wants more like 800wathhs rms not 1.5k. anyways good luck lemme know how it goes

Finally stopped raining here, Thanks for the Advice! I'll be heading out after this to try that Orange Wire. (You are Right it is Orange)

I know the amp sucks. I didn't have one and gave $20 for it. It seems to not bump like it should.

The Sub is in a ported box. Is that good? Should I keep it on it's back facing up? Or put it on it's side?
I have it facing up now. I figured it was better because of the weight distribution.

I was wondering if this will shake the car anywhere close to like your 17? does.

my 18? lol well the best box thats not gonna be walled off in your trunk would be sub facing back port back. take timeto dynamatt and foam spray the trunk and spray foam inside the part that the shiny chrome is on your trunk.... as far as flex goes. 1 15 on 200rms vs 1 18 on about 2.3krms with 3 batteries high output alt prolly isnt a fair comparison. and ported is louder sealed can hit lower sometimes. general rule of thumb
\

also if u can take pix of ur setup i love seeing diff setups. ill try and snap acouple pix today that are recent.

yea thats what i forgot to say. when i had my explorer, before i got the remot wire working i put a airplane switch in the power wire. and screwed it into the dash. it looked real slick. but good thinkin. if i can think of anything that goes off with the car ill be sure to let you know.

@ iverson- You know that song "Bounce" By Timbaland from Step Up 2? It sounds amazing with the Bass.. If that's your thing it would be awesome to see some more youtube vids from you! Maybe take some requests?? LOL (2Pacs- Hail Mary has been in my car since the 90's)

18, That's right. The Foam is a great idea! I'm a little scared to do it. I don't want to mess anything up spraying foam in there. I would like to reduce the rattle and try to direct the sound to the cab more though. Maybe there's a Tutorial somewhere, but that's more my thing. I think I can figure a clean way to spray some dampening foam in there.

I'll take some pics sometime tomorrow.I'm completely lost with all the knobs on the Amp. I've turned them all to about a "click" below half way. Some seem to make it really loud. I don't want to blow it up. I don't have a clue what most of the knobs and buttons do. I know if I turn them all down it is dead silent.. LOL So all up might cause smoke?? LMAO I haven't turned my volume up even 1/4 of the max, and it beats hard as hell to me. Shakes the whole car!

ooh and to get it as loud as ou can for placement lace the sub 4 inches from the trunk facing the back of the car. and fold the rear seats down. or do a delete like i did lol sucks tho only bein able to have 1 passenger

No luck with the Orange Antenna Wire... BUT BELOW I FOUND A SOLUTION!
I wanted to tuck the wires but I got lazy for now. I just bundled them together with zip ties and ran then by the seat just like yours in your video.

Thanks for pointing out the foam in your newest vid. Typical insulating foam? That stuff is super sticky! I was spray foaming the shed at my house when my dog wiped his side against it. He was bald on one side for a couple months afterwards! LoL

I'm just getting up and dressed... I'll get out there and take a pic of the sub in a few minutes.

I know you said to face it to the trunk, but would facing it 6 inches from the back seat facing the Cab help dampen some vibration? I thought it would give it a lower tone for now until I can do some foaming and taping. I really don't like hearing much vibration outside the car, although it sounds clean inside!

I'm going to move it around today, and just play with it. I live in the 'hood so no one cares. My neighbors drive a Crown Vic with 2 12's. And the Guy across the street has a Denali with some 12's too. I gotta keep this 15 on the DownLow lol

If you can't get the amp to power on remotely via the HU, at least follow this hard wiring tutorial on VWVortex for a place to easily wire the remote up to power on with the key. I have mine wired up to the terminal described in this tutorial to turn on with the key until I can bother with getting into the CD changer plug.

Thanks MrRodgers... It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood thanks to you! LOL :)
I did it, and it worked! I was thinking something under there would work, but I didn't have a clue where to start. It's like a bird's nest under there.

I HAVE A PROBLEM- My dang remote, alarm and automatic windows are not working... It happens 9 out of 10 times when I unhook the battery.
Sometimes it's just the remote unlock/lock, other times it's the cruise control will not work either.
I'm fairly sure it's not a fuse this time, as it will just start working one all of a sudden. I don't know when it will work or what will cause it to work.
