trans question

I have a stock 6 speed trans in my 04 jetta GLI and i have an aftermarkey B&m SHifter on it. for some reason it will not go in first gear at all it feels like something with the shifter versus the trans.. any suggestions.. I'm looking to put the factory shifter back in my car so if any has one for sell please reply!! thanks alot..
