Hello,

My wife has an 2000 TDI and the trunk will not open anymore. The key fob nor the in- cabin release will not open it. The lights flash but you don't hear the motor moving like before. When I try to use the actual key, the lock itself wont turn.

Could this be a fuse problem? If so, which fuse would it be?
we've lost the manual sometime ago...

I have a 2000 GLS and I am having the same problem with my Jetta. I've tried everything to get it open myself but I haven't had any luck. I did go to a VW repair shop and they told me I need to replace the latch because when I stick the key inside the truck you can hear the lock engage but the truck still will not open. To make a long story short they told me I need have the latch replace and they would have to purchase the part from the dealership for about $100 and it would cost about another $100 for labor. I'll go ahead and pay the prices as the last resort, but I was hoping someone in the forum had a better way. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help, but if and when you find a better route let me know and I'll do the same.

you could do this to atleast get the trunk open to examine it. drop down the back seats and craw into the trunk compartment and look for the interior emergency trunk release, this is usually red or yellow. It is the law that these are in a car now so nobody can be locked in a trunk. it is a mechanical by wire release so should be fine.
good luck

Would anyone happen to know where the emergency release in the trunk is for a 2000 Jetta, because I can not find it for the life of me. Even when I went to the VW repair shop the manager climbed into the trunk looking for the emergency release and could not find it, either.

You can check the wiring for the latch... It's strapped to the hinge joint for the trunk. When you look at it you will see that there is a crease where it folds when the trunk is closed. Sometimes the wires inside can break and thus cause all kinds of electrical fun on your trunk lid (including making the latch not work/open). Do your license plate lights work?

Also, for those looking for their trunk release (on the inside of the trunk)... I've got an 04, and mine is on the inside of the trunk lid... Large handle...
