well first off, the VR is easier because you can just find a wrecked mk3 VR passat or jetta for like 1500$ and pull the motor, the 1.8t is still only like 5 yrs old so its still an assload of money not to mention all the electrical work involved in doing the swap, it's not an easy transition. And what she meant was it wouldve been cheaper and easier just to buy an actual MK4 1.8t than to do the swap, way more practical, its hard thats why you don't see it often.

Took the words right out of my head!
Thank you

And please do not take my comment to be offensive. I had the same idea as you did to swap my baby out to a 1.8t a few years ago but then had some one say the same thing to me and after some looking into and thought I came up with exactly what Revo1gli just said.

if you keep your 2.0 look att bbm, they make a nice supercharger, or kinetic motorsports for a turbo

if you go vr, you can find a doner car for under 1500. You will need engine, trans, ecu, wiring, axels, and subframe.

If you want to go 1.8t, its not as hard and expensive as people think. You can use your stock trans, ecu, wiring, and everything if you get the chip and kit from reflex tuning. You will have to do some small things like run 16v plugs, but not much. You can pick up the used engine for about 1k and get a custom exhaust for under 500.

If you have any questions or need further info ask, as i have done both vr and 1.8t swaps in mkIII's

I have a turbo for mine its just not on I have not been able to make up my mind about it. Just be careful with your block the 2.0s are not known for having strong ones so control your boost wisely.

yea i guess that all makes sense. damn! is it possible to turbo the 2.0 i got in it now? i know they dont make a turbo kit. i just want to make my car fast. haha. thats all!

not really true. I have friends that run 16lbs daily on stock engines with no issues ar all. I know many people on my other forum that daily with stock internals that run 14-15 lbs all day long. Only thing to look out for is if you have a mkIV because their plastic manifolds tend to crack under too much boost, but the blocks and stock internals can take a lot of abuse

yeah, the person who posted this has a mk3 ABA 2.0 which has an incredibly strong bottom end, it was originally supposed to be used for the VR's. He could boost it all day and have no problem, NeverFast has a mk4 2.0 it's a totally different motor so the bottom end isn't built for turbo like the mk3 was
