I recently purchased a 96 jetta that the previous owner had to add a push button for the ignition. It started every time until today when i didn't have the key all the way in the on position. It instantly killed all power to the car, then all my gauges started bouncing up and down. The tach and speedometer stopped after about 30 seconds but the oil and fuel gauge kept bouncing even with the key removed. Turning the key to the on position stopped the bouncing and the only other way was to remove the battery connection. Pulling my relays while the issue was happening didn't stop the issue. I checked all my fuses with the battery disconnected and the gauge issue has stopped but now the car is completely dead. I haven't had tried jumping yet but dont think thats the issue since the battery is in good shape. What other sort of things should I look into? Someone suggested I may have caused an issue with the computer
