Hello all,

Been a while since I have posted. In short I am looking to replace the PCV Valve on my 2005 Jetta with the 2.0L BBW engine designation. According to the service records it has never been replaced and it is so inexpensive that I figured I may as well handle it. The trouble is, I have looked all over the engine and have followed the lines going to and from the intake manifold but can't seem to find it anywhere. My Haynes manual doesn't even mention it anywhere in the glossary.

Has anyone ever serviced this on their car and can direct me to where it is?

I would try to clean it all out first. Determine if your losing a good amount of oil through the PCV, if so I would look into replacing it. Possibly from a junk yard since you do have to replace the whole intake tube with the built in PCV. Part# 1J0-129-684-G

The catch can is a good idea and I might give that a try if I can find a good kit for less than a new intake tube. For now though, I am going to give it a good cleaning and check it again after a few weeks and see how much if any oil has gotten past the valve. I'll post again when I have reached a verdict.

So it has been a little while since I cleaned out the PCV on the intake tube and I thought I would give a little update so that it can help people out in the future.

I took everything apart and completely removed the intake tube from the car. I then took a rag and cleaned out all of the visible oil before the PCV and after the PCV. I also cleaned out the hose that lead from the top of the valve cover of all visible sludge and oil. I then took a can of carb cleaner and blasted out the PCV. I was very generous with the amount that I used; about half of a can.

I reassembled everything and have been driving it the last several months. My oil level has not dropped virtually at all in over 3000 miles of driving. I also took the intake apart just to see if any oil had worked its way past the valve and there was none whatsoever.

If your car is using oil and you can't seem to figure out why, try cleaning the PCV valve as I did. It is well worth your time and can save you a lot of money rather than just replacing the whole intake tube.

The PCV itself is similar and in the same location on the engine. However, if you are looking to replace it, the whole assembly is slightly different and has it's own part number from the rest of the engine designations. Here is a link to it.

Thanks. I noticed it is heated. Is that for the MAF? Does VW suggest any maintenance? Do they expect it to be a lifetime part?

Well my cleaning job was only a temporary fix. It lasted for several months but when I went to check the oil this morning the level had dropped about 3/4 qt again. So I checked the crankcase ventilation system this time using a piece of paper over the opening where the oil cap goes and it was blowing air and oil drops out of it like crazy. When this is working normally it should be sucking the piece of paper down towards the opening. I am going to end up buying a brand new assembly. For others with the BBW engine, here is the part number provided to me from my local VW parts department.
