Jacking it up?

So I'm changing my oil on my (new to me 1 week ago) 03 18T. What is the best way to jack it up? Is there a central left point to place the floor jack? (cross member, frame) or do you go one side then the other? Do you use 2X4 on the jack and jack stands? Is ramps the better way? The manual was not any help. Also, is the drain plug easy to find?

Thanks for the help!

haha, this your first time?

jack it up on one side close to the front wheel on the pinch weld and put a jack stand under it do the same on the other, make sure you pull your hand brake if its a stick.

The drain plug should be easy to find dont worry.

jacks are ok but ramps are by far the best thing very i have a pair and all you got to do is line up the ramps with you tires then drive up them ( i put it in revers and shut the car off) and pull up the hand break(and if you want you can put tire chucks to be even more safe i do it as well). i think its far safer than a crappy jack.

and the oil lug is very easy to see. also a word of advise when you put the plug back in DO NOT tighten it with a wrench, tighten it as far as you can by hand and thats it. you can take it off with a wrench but put it back in by hand.

also if you are changing your oil filter. dip you finger in the old oil and coat the rubber gasket with the oil and install the filter. if you dont lube the gasket, its going to be very very difficult to take it off again when you change it.

Ramps are what i use as well, however, just got me thinking... Can you use tire ramps with a GLI ? I know my front end gets pretty close sometimes if i dont go super super slow up and down, or if the tires slid on the way down. Just wondering if they have enough clearence to get up on the ramps.

how low is you car?

you can go up them even if your car is low both my bros have coil-overs on their cars(RX7 & Lancer) and they are F'in LOW and they can get up no prob.

as long as you go slow like your supposed to i don see any problems
