Listing here my 2013 VW Jetta GLI. Purchased Oct 2013 with 6000mi on it. Now It has 106650mi. If you are a German Car mechanic this would be a great car.
The Good:
I have taken very good care of it, and have a binder of all it's service, maintenance and repair records. It has a Stage1 APR tune, and APR Carbon Fiber Intake. Car is Cockroach, Who turned on the lights quick. I have a 5th Factory VW/GLI 18"rim all with P235-40 18" Continental DWS06 tires in various states (all show at least the DW) of wear. K&N Filters are in the intake, breather tube and cabin. Paint is original and in great shape. Both bumper covers have been repainted over the years.
The enclosed pictures will show all the good.
The Bad:
At 50000mi crank/valvetrain locked up. A "less than" 50000mi used motor was installed, under warranty. I always had Low Oil pressure turn off engine lite on both motors. Have changed sensor many times and have used both the $7.00 sensor and a $40.00 sensor. I even have, not installed yet septate VDO oil pressure and oil temperature gauges and steering wheel mounting pod. When in "rush hour" type traffic with a normal temperature gauge reading that low oil warning starts with three beeps, the light comes on "Shut Engine OFF See Owners Manual" and then the warning go's off. Sometimes after the warning light go's off just the oil icon will blink and then all, as always is fine. Of course. in the beginning I always pulled over and checked. And as always the oil level is as it should be. At about 95000 it stated showing a check engine light, and it NEVER showed me that. The light turned out to be a miss fire, that I (some German Mechanics do not or will not work in these cars/I have been through three) have been chasing. I have a Scanner, I have coils, some say timing chain, some say the lobs on the camshaft can move, due to the manufacturing process now a days. I have had new fuel injectors installed and had the intake manifold walnut shell blasted. (See Pictures). And there are other codes, switch gear is wearing out!
The Ugly:
The ugly is not a visual thing, though I have a picture.
After the car's last service, it was running great, quick, fast, smooth and I was planning to change the turbo and more, after all it does have 106000 miles on her. Then the ignition switch in the steering column locked up. Seams a computerized anti-thief device in the steering column mechanical "bar" lack of another word, jammed. You can get replacment tumblers but not that other device, and if you are a trained European Auto-Technician you know the device. I had to have it towed for it's 2nd time.
After spending the monies, I did only for it to be back on a tow truck, not again.
I have more pictures.
After all I do have another project car, '79 WS6 400/4sp T-top TA that needs my attention.
